Its project name was Javelin. The first official release network/company for the 8900 in North America was Rogers Wireless in Canada. The official release on T-Mobile USA was on February 11, 2009.[1] The phone has been released on most UK networks. It was first thought to be a part of the latest 9000 series phones; however it was revealed to be an 8900 series due to the lack of 3G, unlike the BlackBerry Bold, and was officially named the BlackBerry Curve 8900.[2] The Curve 8900 is a quad-band GSM/EDGE phone, unlike the BlackBerry Tour which is an EV-DO device, with A-GPS. In the BlackBerry model lineup, the device appears to be a replacement for the older BlackBerry Curve 8300 and is an upgrade in all aspects and features. The most significant differences to the recently released and related BlackBerry Bold is the Curve's smaller size, better camera, and lack of 3G connectivity. Additional differences include the smaller but higher resolution Curve 8900 screen (480×360 vs 480×320), different USB port (mini on Bold vs. micro on 8900), smaller keyboard, larger internal memory, slightly slower processor, and a lower price. Several months after the 8900's US debut on T-Mobile, it was released by AT&T Wireless as well.
Beautiful vibrant screen and great device overall!

This phone is absolutely beautiful. Not only is the overall style greatly improved, it feels great in hand in comparison to its predecessors. I come from the Pearl, and the 8900 is an excellent upgrade from that. The screen is brilliant, the operating system is vastly improved. There is still some slight lag here and there, but in comparison with the Pearl I was using for 3 years, it is a definitely improvement. Also, the new 5.0 operating system is coming out soon apparently. Can't wait. My only complaint is the lack of 3G, especially since T-Mobile has horrible coverage. I barely get any single in my house or my parents house which is where I am when I'm not out and about. If you want to get the curve you might want to consider getting it on either ATT or getting the Tour on Sprint or Verizon. They have basically the same exact specs, but just a bit of a different style and you'll probably get better coverage. Also, the Bold on ATT is an excellent alternative, but doesnt have as great of a camera. The 8900 has a better screen than the Bold from what I've seen (I've used both phones). Overall form factor is great, but if I had to complain about one thing it would be the keyboard. I'm used to larger keys on the pearl and texting with only one hand, but this phone requires texting with both hands for me and the buttons are half the size. The Tour and Bold have bigger keys. Personally I like the trackball better than the trackpad on the newest Blackberry editions, so if you want something with the exact same specs, but with a trackball, then get the 8900. If the keypad is a deal breaker for you, get the Tour or the original Bold because they have better keypads but still have the trackball. That said, GSM is always the better alternative, so sprint or Verizon may not be viable options for some people, in which case I'd recommend getting the Bold on ATT if camera is as big of an issue for you. There are many t...

This is my first smartphone (hello 21st century) and after a very calculated decision making process, I think I made a great choice. I was originally planning to get a Bold 9700 but it was selling for at least $100 more on eBay which I decided was not worth it so I went with the closest thing, the Curve 8900. By using the comparison tool on Blackberry.com one can see the differences between the two models are for the most part minute, the only one some would take issue with being the 3G capability (Bold) vs WiFi (Curve). For me this was not a big deal. The Bold appealed to me because it is the biggest of the Blackberrys and I am a female with long fingers and larger hands. Though the 8900 is smaller, it's not a struggle. The keypad is raised and the keys respond easily, no pounding involved (which excessive texters, especially women who type with their nails know can save you sore nail beds). The thing that first struck me was the gorgeous 480x360 high res display. I absolutely LOVE the fact that the light adjusts itself automatically to whatever setting you're in and even in the car with the bright Vegas sun beaming in, I can see a crystal clear screen. The other thing I love is all the bells and whistles this phone has. The 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus takes awesome pictures, better ones than my digital camera. The sound is crisp and plenty loud if you like it that way (I do). The vibrate feature is also nice and strong, and I am someone quite familiar with objects that vibrate (but we won't go there). There is a video camera, GPS, and every feature you could conceivably want, really. If you're like me and need to be kept amused (I have the most boring job in the entire world) you'll never be bored with this phone. I can watch YouTube videos or enjoy the many free and fun apps on Blackberry App World. For the technophobes, I found navigation generally easy having not read the manual, and I've never operated a smart...
Blackberry Curve 8900: the real deal

I recently purchased a Blackberry Curve 8900 and i will tell you that i am very impressed with this phone. Below are some reviews of some of the attractive features of this phone: Screen: The viewing screen is very crisp and is decently sized. This does allow you so see the icons, folders, and apps in a very easy fashion. You do absolutely need to protect the screen with screen covers as screen will scratch from daily use. QWERTY keypad: The QWERTY keypad is nicely spaced over the entire phone. Although the buttons are small at some standards, the spacing inbetween each button does help with mistyping inputs(I have big ol thumbs). Trackball: The trackball on this model moves nicely. With some adjustment on the personal end, the trackball seems to not be ultra sensitive and easily manipulates/ moves cursers and highlighting on the screen. The ball itself is small and must be treated like an enter function sometimes which can be frustrating at first. Speakerphone: I have read alot of reviews where it is stated that the sound qulaity is bad: not my experience here. The speakerphone is nice and crisp. The speaker itself does get quite loud and is easily adjustable without having to move around the OS. Camera: The camera found on this particular phone is decent for the price, however beware that there is SERIOUS lag bewteen the time it takes the camera to take the picture and your orginal intent. Once the picture has been taken, assuming you capture the moment, the pics are enjoyable to view. The guts and glory of the phone: After intial setup has taken place, the OS of the Blackberry Curve can become very easy to use. While some adjustment was taken on my end, being my first Smartphone, the process was fairly painless. Learning where to find certain features on this phone are easy and the layout is friendly. If trouble arises, there is always the "help" ability which is very helpful and useful. The "back" butto...

I've had some bad experience with touchscreen until i got my hands on a itouch.

bought the 8900 phone a week ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive phone. It has a 3M-pixel camera, video camera, and speakerphone. The bb size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan of roughly 4 hours. Other phones I've owned have complicated menus anddont get you to important features easily. Overall, I'd recommend the phone if you're on a budget.

The Curve 8900 is also called the Javelin. Its a lightweight compact blackberry that has a wonderful and very sleek design. It packs all the features of the older Curve 8300 series plus more. The Javelin has 256mb ROM vs 64 in the 8300. It also has 3G capabilities and a better camera. The operating system runs faster with its 512 mhz processor and onboard memory has been expanded. Overall, this is a nice upgrade to the older curve.

This is the second BlackBerry I have owned. It does things that the first one did not from 3 years ago which is: play streaming videos; like youtube vids., play pandora radio, connect to my car stereo and play mp3 and whatever else. I would of rated it excellent, but that may be over positive in my views. Satisfied I am to have this smart-phone. This also handles many applications like facebook and email. I bought it from somebody for $225.00 +free shipping, then had it activated at my local T-Mobile agency for the firsts months bill of $72.00. This included the data plan that enables the use the BlackBerry as an internet modem with a computer, of course, the desktop software must be downloaded from BB free to use this service. Unlike my first BB modem, this one transfers data faster and shortens loading time of webpages and streaming video. I would of paid $300.00 with shipping, but got lucky. I'm very happy with a two month old BB with no scratches and a free protective case, and not missing an iPhone or the like.
